United States: It is suggested to follow the Planetary Health Diet that has been found to lower the danger of death before the age of seventy by thirty percent, says the latest study.
More about the research
The study also proved that the Planetary Health Diet lowers the risk of all the common causes of death for participants, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and respiratory diseases.
Moreover, a plant-based diet also helps improve our natural environment.
Dr. Walter Willett, a co-author of the research and the chairman of the Department of Nutrition at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health in Massachusetts, added, “The findings show just how linked human and planetary Health is. Eating healthfully boosts environmental sustainability — which in turn is essential for the Health and wellbeing of every person on Earth.”
Know more about Planetary Health Diet
The Planetary Health Diet entails taking minimally processed and more of plant-based foods with low greenhouse gas emissions.
Additionally, a portion of food that is recommended in the diet consists of approximately half the plate of fruits and vegetables.
Next half of the plate holds the principles like whole grain foods, unsaturated plant fats, plant proteins and occasionally small proportions of animal protein.
Anna Arthur, PhD, an assistant professor of dietetics and nutrition at the University of Kansas Medical Center, elaborated: “These foods are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fiber, protein, and omega 3 fatty acids of which our body needs for health and prevention of chronic diseases, We also restrict red and processed meat due to the higher environmental footprint and the caution against colorectal cancer and heart diseases,” Medical News Today noted.
Arthur, who was not part of the study, added, “I do believe the Planetary Health Diet is a promising path forward to reduce the burden of chronic disease.”
“People interested in following this diet may benefit from working with a registered dietitian nutritionist who can guide them in adopting the diet while ensuring individual dietary needs and preferences are met,” Arthur added.
